Black Hole Cosplay Event

Photographer Information

Thank you for your interest! We’re really keen to create a safe place for people to network with some awesome photographers and create some awesome photos.

What to bring:

  1. Yourself and your camera! If you have a Godox light controller (e.g. the XPRO or X2T) bring it along with you, as there will be some godox off camera lighting. We would suggest a lens no longer than about 80mm full frame equivalent due to space within the venue.

  2. Your ID - this is an 18+ event, as there will be a bar operating on site. Please bring your ID. If you are under 18, we’re sorry, but there are challenges around both the bar as well as photographing people under 18.

  3. Business cards or a contact QR code

  4. Something to keep track of who you’re shooting with throughout the day

  5. If you have a price list for booking shoots outside the event, have information ready to go.

What to expect:

  • A safe place to hang out with chairs and a bar - please drink responsibly and remember that cosplay is not consent.

  • Several different sets for photos. Currently we’re planning some stage curtains and fairylights for shots like those to the left, a vintage wall with a fancy chair or two that will look good with fantasy or fairytale outfits, and a space to get some cool detail shots of your props. Keep an eye on the Black Hole Cosplay Events instagram page for updates on the sets!

  • While this is an all day event, there is no pressure on photographers to stay all day or take photos with everyone. Have fun, connect with people you might not have worked with before and do some networking for possible future shoots.

  • The expectation for the photographers is that they will provide up to 5 edited images as TFP (time for photos/prints) and beyond that they can choose to charge a small fee to cover their time for editing. Photographers may also sell prints, but costs for these can vary wildly.

Shooting Rules

Be sensible and be safe.

As ever, cosplay is not consent. Talk to your model and ask before you touch anyone or any part of a costume.

Introduce yourself and have a discussion about the image you want create together.

Clearly discuss what you would like to shoot. Cosplayers are being encouraged to bring a moodboard or some shoot ideas with them to make this more of a collaborative experience.

Sharing images on the back of the camera is a great way to build confidence.

Don’t push a cosplayer into doing something that they are not comfortable with or physically capable of doing.

Provide up to 5 photos as TFP for cosplayers you shoot with.

Be careful if walking backwards to frame a shot better. Check before moving in case someone is behind you.

If you need a light moved or adjusted, please ask Cassa or Alison on the day.
